The Battle of Fort Beausejour

June 3, 1755

Fort Beausejour is one of the Chignecto Forts in what is now New Brunswick, Canada but in 1755 was part of the French colony of Acadia. These forts were the object of an English expedition to further displace the Acadians when war broke out again as they still refused to swear fealty to either crown.

Historically the fort was invested almost without incident as the French once again did not receive the re-enforcements promised them by the French colonial government. The news of this caused the defenders to lose heart and surrender before the fight was really started.

In this scenario we assume that the call to the local militia and the reinforcements from Lousibourg all arrive potentially. The French are split into three commands. Please do not take this scenario as history but merely a game based on history.

The French

Fort command (de Vergor)

1 Franche de la Marine

2 Acadians

1 Medium Battery in each bastion

2 Micmacs

Reserve (Vachon)

6 regiments French Militia

Relief force (Lozier)

3 French regulars

The British

(Monkton C in C)

2 Medium Batteries

Lawrence

3 Regiments Line (40th, 45th, 47th)

Provincial Wing

Winslow

5 New England Irregulars

Shirley

5 New England Irregulars

All of the British start on the table entering across the Missagaush river (Mounted and foot speed 3). The French start within the fort. The medium guns are one per bastion and may not be moved up or down. Note there are 5 bastion on the list (Beausejour had 5) - use how ever many the model you are using has.

The game lasts 18 turns. The fort is in poor condition and is considered to be only defense two. Every 2 artillery hits on a section reduces it to one defense level lower. When reduced to 0 it is just S3 terrain.

Victory conditions
