The Staines Wargamers' Crimean War Game
January 1999
The New Year game for 1999 was a big Crimean War battle using 'Principles Of War'. This scenario had several Russian Divisions holding a strategic railway line against an Franco-British army. The game managed to demonstrate many elements of the war; the British and French forces totally failed to cooperate, the British cavalry was nearly lost in a
futile attack against unscouted terrain, and the Russian cavalry was defeated by a thin blue line of French infantry. The rules stood the test of such a large game very well.
These pictures were taken by Tony Cane. Unfortunately the lighting was not very good, and the pictures suffered as a result.
