21 July, 1770

by Kent Dowell

Russian OB

Turkish/Tartar OB

The Russians had between 17,000 and 35-40,000 troops and went up against a mixed Turkish/Tartar force of some where around 120-150,000. The Russians formed five divisional squares and marched across the field to engage and crush the Turkish prepared positions while the Tartars ravaged the Russian rear.

The Russians starting 6" in and the Turks starting 24" in (use a two by two table set up... 5' by 12' - and some dead space on the ends as well) given that we will have a five foot wide table this will give a the normal seperation distances. The Turks will get about 36 inches of cover/prepared positions for their two centre commands in a fixed position. The Turkish camp command will not be able to move outside of the "threatened line of supply" box until there are Russians within tactical movement distance (given that this will be in the woods.... 4"). The Tartars will come on the east flank on Turn 3 or so (still thinking of this). The Russians will not be able to start to move within 16" of the east flank until the Tartars arrive.

Objectives

Threaten Russian Line of Supply -15
Threaten Turkish Line of Supply (Major Camp) -35
Turkish Minor Camp 25

The minor camp would be a point about 6" behind the prepared positions.

The point values of the lists works out to around

Russian 574

Turkish and Tartar 621
Prepared Positions 36
total 657

To break the Turks and Tartars down a bit more....
Turkish Centre 242 plus 36 positions = 278
Turkish Cavalry 169
Turkish Camp 78
Tartars 132

Given the 21 July date for the battle this is going to be a 17 turn game - so some effort is going to have to be made to move this thing along!
